Solar Enhanced A3 Homes.

New homes in Ireland need to meet Part L of the 2011 Building Regulations. So all new houses being built (since 2008) must install a certain amount of renewable energy . Plus builders across Ireland want to achieve an A-Rated house when building their new homes. There are three A ratings in the Ber scale. An A1, an A2 and an A3.  So today we will discuss how to achieve an A3 rating.

Solar Enhanced A3 Homes. Builders Requirements.

Solar Enhanced A3 HomesFirstly builders across Ireland want to use the following in their new homes.

  • A standard building system. Which has normal U-Values. Modern efficient double glazing.
  • Natural ventilation.
  • A simple gas or oil boiler with normal sized low-cost steel radiators.

So for the builders to pass Part L we introduce them to the NuTech Solar Enhanced Heating and Hot water system.  Thus NuTech work with the builders to create A3 rated homes.  As a result these A3 rated homes are economical to heat.  Plus they have reasonable levels of insulation and glazing, keeping heat in the home.

  • Ground Floor slab. 0.14 W/m2.K.
  • External Walls. 0.21 W/m2.K.
  • Roof. 0.13 W/m2.K.
  • Windows. 1.42 W/m2.K.

Plus a Natural Ventilation system is used with window vents in all of the windows.  While mechanical extract fans are in all of the ‘wet’ rooms.

Then these homes combine gas fired central heating with solar hot water panels. Plus NuTech Renewables Technology.  Which sends up to four times the amount of solar energy to the house compared to a standard solar water heating system . Plus the home has a Dimplex SmartRad radiator, which is linked to the solar panel. As a result this saves on home heating bills.

The patented Solar Enhanced Heating and hot water system (SEH) .

Solar panel installation, ros mor, limerick IrelandThe patented Solar Enhanced Heating and Hot water system (SEH) heats hot water and rooms in a home.  Firstly solar hot water panels go onto the roof of the home, and a solar hot water storage tank is installed.  Please note there will be more solar panels installed on the roof than a normal solar hot water heating system. So you can collect as much solar energy as possible. The solar energy collected is then used to heat hot water and the home.

How it works.

Solar Hot Water.  Firstly solar energy comes from the solar panels on the roof. It is then sent to a coil at the bottom of the solar hot water tank. This heats the water in the tank, and provides the hot water for the house.

Solar Assisted Heating.Solar heat can go directly to the Dimplex SmartRad to heat the house. At night the solar hot water tank can act as a heat store for the solar energy collected. When requested (via the IRES controller) this stored solar energy is taken from the solar tank to  the Dimplex SmartRad.  Which uses the heat to warm the air in the house . This reduces the energy required for home heating.

In summer , when no heat is wanted the solar energy  will go only to the solar hot water tank .

Solar Enhanced A3 Homes. Unique Patented Technology.

Solar panel installation, ros mor, limerick IrelandLow levels of solar radiation are found in winter months in Ireland. In most cases the solar energy collected is too weak to heat water in a solar tank. So a normal solar hot water heating system will not work in dull weather.

In winter the solar panels will collect this low grade solar energy. Then via the IRES controller, the low grade solar energy is sent to a Dimplex SmartRad. The radiator will send this energy out as heat. This helps to warm the air in the home. So it will now take less energy to heat your home. Which will save you money and helps to reduce your heating bill.

Most of all, this system gives extra amounts of solar energy to the house.  So this helps the designer and builder to meet Part L of the 2011 Building Regulations.

The IRES Controller gives real time information on how the system is working i.e “Solar to Ventilation Mode”.  This shows that the system is heating the air in the house via the Dimplex SmartRad.
