If you are a home-owner or a private tenant living in a house in Ireland, you may be able to claim financial assistance via a government scheme or government grant, towards making repairs, improvements or converting your old heating system to a modern renewable energy heating system. At present the Irish Government is providing a number of home renovation grants, and providing tax allowances, which allow the home-owner to make their home more energy efficient. These are known as energy grants and can be used to gain financial assistance for installing a renewable energy system such as solar panels, heat pump, biomass boilers, which will help reduce your home heating bill.
For the Better Energy Home scheme provides grants to home-owners to upgrade their homes with energy efficiency measures, thus reducing energy use, costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Better Energy Homes is a Government scheme which gives fixed cash grants for insulation and heating system upgrades, helping to make your home more comfortable and cheaper to run. It is available to all owners of homes built before 2006. Grants are provided for the following upgrade works done to any home built before 2006:Roof insulation,Wall insulation,Boiler and heating control upgrades,Solar panels.
Additionally the home renovation tax incentive (HRI) scheme, Ireland. enables home owners to claim tax relief on repairs, renovations or improvement work that is carried out on their homes by tax-compliant contractors and is subject to 13.5% VAT. The Home Renovation Incentive (HRI) will be paid in the form of a tax credit at 13.5% of qualifying expenditure, which can be set against your income tax over 2 years. In general, qualifying work must be done between 25 October 2013 and 31 December 2015.
